Nassau Educators FCU’s Madison Ave Pitch: Better Banking

NEW YORK – Nassau Educators FCU, Long Island’s third-largest credit union, on Tuesday unveiled a new TV commercial to mark its new branding campaign, called “Better banking because we’re not a bank.”

The commercial was produced by the $2-billion credit union’s newly hired Madison Ave. ad agency, DeVito/Verdi. It began airing this week throughout the New York metro market.

The commercial touches on the charmed life of the credit union’s big bank rivals – despite their unpopular practices. It shows a group of banking elders sitting around a large boardroom table, sipping from cut-glass crystal while exchanging knowing winks and smirks. An Italian aria provides a haunting soundtrack as these bankers presumably are discussing various ways to maximize profits.

“You gotta hand it to them,” the spot begins, “Banks offer high interest loans and have no shortage of takers. They get away with charging fees for most everything.”

The commercial continues by pointing out how banks operate with impunity: “When they mess up royally, they’re bailed out by the government.”  The spot concludes with the admonition: “Yeah, you gotta hand it to them...but you don’t have to hand them your money.”

The TV spots kicks off a new marketing campaign for the credit union, which serves anyone living in Long Island’s Nassau or Suffolk counties (except the towns of East Hampton, Southampton and Shelter Island). To view the commercial, click on the link: http://view.vzaar.com/1234892/video.

Devito/Verdi has designed ad campaigns for Kohl’s, Legal Sea Foods, Sony, Canon, Duane Reade Drug Stores, BMW and Grey Goose Vodka. The firm said its work has won it top prizes at the Clios, Radio Mercury, Cannes, Andy, Addy and One Show award ceremonies.
