PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Navy FCU announced this afternoon it is expanding its huge operations center here and will be hiring around 1,500 employees here later this year.
The expansion is part of the $54 billion credit union’s long-term growth plans that was announced last year, when it bought 240 acres adjacent to its 65-acre call center campus. Plans for the land include two new buildings that are expected to have their construction started later this year. The 1,500 new jobs are expected to have an average annual salary of $44,082. New positions are said to include executive management, analysts and IT engineers. The state is providing $1.6 million in tax incentives for the project because of the new jobs it will create.
"Our Pensacola expansion is key to supporting the credit union's strong growth and an important way for us to continue delivering outstanding service," said Cutler Dawson, president of Navy Federal. "We're proud to be a part of the economic growth for the area."
Navy Federal's next phase of growth in Pensacola involves the construction of two new buildings, totaling 342,300 square feet at its Greater Pensacola Operations campus. Upon completion, 1,500 corporate and operational jobs will be created. Capital investments for the expansion will exceed $200 million, and also include constructing a central energy plant, auditorium, parking structure and recreation area.
The call center, the world’s largest credit union facility, already employs 2,800 workers.
The announcement was made during a news conference attended by Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Navy Federal Chairman John Lockhard, as well as Dawson.
