NCUA Launches New Consumer Website

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NCUA unveiled a new consumer tool aimed at expanding the federal agency’s outreach to consumers as part of National Consumer Protection Week.

The regulator said MyCreditUnion.gov offers a “one-stop toolbox” of educational information and personal finance tips designed to help individuals in making smart financial decisions and better choices for their money.

The new initiative expands NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz’s outreach beyond credit unions and directly to credit union members and potential members. Last year Matz opened an office of consumer affairs, then hired consumer guru Suze Orman to promote NCUA.

“The best way for consumers to protect their money and to get the best financial deal is to learn the most that they can about financial products and services before signing on the dotted line,” Matz said upon launching the website. “Whether it’s a car loan, a mortgage, a credit card, or a short-term alternative loan, smart consumers need to do their financial homework.”
