ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NCUA announced yesterday that executive director Len Skiles is retiring at year-end after a 38-year career with the credit union regulator and will be succeeded as the agency’s chief operating officer by David Marquis, its chief examiner for the past 14 years.
As department heads, the two men are among a handful of career NCUA employees who have run the agency through the comings and goings of politically appointed NCUA Board members.
Skiles began his career with NCUA as a staff attorney in the general counsel’s office in 1973 and has served as the agency’s deputy general counsel, director of its southwest regional office and head of the Asset Management and Assistance Center, which manages assets from liquidated credit unions. He was appointed NCUA executive director, the agency’s chief operating officer, in February 2001
Marquis has been with NCUA since 1978 and has served as a supervisory examiner, associate regional director, and regional director as well as deputy director of the office of examinations and insurance, before being named director of the office of examinations and insurance in 1994.
