NCUA OKs Use Of Matricula Cards

NCUA said FCUs may accept so-called matricula consular cards, identification cards for non-residents provided by the Mexican embassy, as valid identification for opening new member accounts. In a new legal opinion letter, NCUA told Chicanos Por La Causa FCU, Phoenix, there is no legal impediment to using matricula consular cards, or other forms of ID.

However, any credit union doing so, said NCUA, "must be sure to identify and address any risks associated with the initiative."
