The summer ads, which follow TV spots during March's college basketball tournament, are running through Aug. 31 in nine major metropolitan areas in three states-Arizona, California, Florida, and Washington, D.C.

The ads reaffirm the security of member deposits in federally insured credit unions and are currently being displayed in the interior of a total of 1,700 transit buses.

"This campaign is an additional step in NCUA's overall efforts to make certain that the public is fully aware of the safety of NCUSIF insurance," said NCUA Chairman Michael Fryzel. "The trying financial times have made it essential that consumers are reassured about their credit union funds. I remain confident that this highly visible advertisement will underscore the safe alternative that is NCUSIF insurance."

During NCAA's "March Madness" college basketball championship NCUA ran a series of TV commercial featuring consumer advocate Jane Bryant Quinn touting NCUSIF's safety and soundness.
