WASHINGTON - The new chairman of the National Credit Union Foundation, Allan Kemp McMorris, has pledged more financial and human resources to expand the Credit Union Development Education (DE) program in the U.S. and worldwide. “Credit union philosophy is our most important asset,” McMorris affirmed in his first address the group. “I promise you I will become a CUDE before the end of my term as Foundation Chair!”
DE Program Director Tom Decker, highlighted several initiatives planned for the year:
* DE Workshop. A more experiential learning event than ever offered to alumni... From May 21-24 in Seattle, the 2008 DE Workshop will feature tours of the Biz Kid$ set while an episode is being filmed for PBS, tours of IslandWood, where a sustainable environment is the classroom, and a course on micro-finance from award-winning international facilitator Carol Schillios.
* International DE Council. A joint venture with DE program leaders from Australia, Canada, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries with DE programs. The council plans to facilitate curriculum enhancements and training exchanges.
* International Development Certification. A joint venture with the World Council of CUs to recognize leaders who graduate from DE training and international programs offered by WOCCU.
