New CU Name Spells Money—Kind Of

CLARKSBURG, Md. – Comstar FCU, a conglomeration of government credit unions, said today it is changing its name to Nymeo—an anagram of the word “money,” and will promote itself as a new way to look at money.

The $235 million credit union in this Washington, D.C., suburb has had many name changes over its 80-year history. Among other things, it was Monocacy FCU serving employees at Fort Detrick; Standards CU serving employees at the National Bureau of Standards and the Harry Diamond Laboratories; then Comstar—which represents "COMbined Science, Technology And Research.”

The new name is part of a rebranding that will include renovations to the credit union’s eight branches, associates’ stations where each representative uses iPads to serve members, and solar-powered stations that allow members to charge their electronic devices at some of the branches.
