ALBANY, N.Y. SEFCU, New York’s seventh-largest credit union, is moving its headquarters to a former train station in downtown as part of a plan to redevelop the site.
The revitalization project of Kiernan Plaza on Broadway will bring engineering firm CHA and telecommunications firm Windstream Communications, which will move their headquarters to the site, as well.
The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany has had plans to make over the former Union train station and bank headquarters into an incubator for tech companies, and rebrand it as the Smart Cities Technology Innovation Center (SCiTI Center).
Michael Castellana, president of the one-time State Employees’ FCU, said the credit union will provide “smart cities” incentives to attract businesses to the city. The $2.7-billion credit union will keep its current offices at Patroon Creek, on the outskirts of the city. The move to downtown Albany will give SEFCU more room for its growing work force, it said.
