NORTH POLE, Alaska – Officials at the North Pole Middle School hurriedly evacuated the school after a bomb threat was phoned in Wednesday, apparently to divert police from a robbery at a Alaska USA FCU branch inside a Safeway supermarket.

The middle school bomb threat, which caused officials to lock down the school’s 600 students for hours, was probably called in by the same person who robbed the credit union, according to police.
The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
