Whether it's because of Nerf wars, indoor water balloon tosses, relay races, games of blindfolded Pictionary between departments or campaigns designed to give back to the community, Landings Credit Union's staff retention rate stands at 40% for employees with at least five years of service and 25% for employees with 10 years or more.

"We provide a work environment that is professional, career-oriented, courteous, friendly, enjoyable, and free from harassment and negative attitude," said Chief Human Resource Officer Adrianne Rexius. "Our staff is excited about our many volunteer events throughout the year and has a genuine desire to help in any way they can."

Recent community initiatives included 100% employee participation on a summer water drive that resulted in Landings donating more than 8,000 bottles of water to community members. Additionally, 50 employees and their families volunteered for the "Feed My Starving Children" program. In less than two hours, more than 2,100 meals were packed to be shipped to impoverished countries around the world.

That community-first philosophy starts from within the ranks at Landings CU, where employees are "part of the family," noted Rexius. So when the chips are down for one team member, a collective buoying spirit emerges.

"Whenever an employee is dealing with a personal issue, our staff steps up to support one another and help in any way we can," said Rexius. "We supported several employees who had a family member fighting a terminal illness or raised money to replace items that were stolen from their home and purchased gift cards so an employee knows where their next meal is coming from."

To keep a finger on the pulse of staff wants and needs, employee satisfaction surveys are regularly conducted and CEO Margaret Hunnicutt hosts an off-site breakfast meeting once per quarter. Hunnicut randomly selects approximately 10 non-management employees to attend the event and share their thoughts and perspectives.

"Our CEO will address any questions or concerns an employee may have and listen to any ideas or feedback as well," said Rexius. "This is a great opportunity and forum for our staff to get to know our senior leader and for our senior leader to get to know the employees better, too."

Founded in 1953, the CU currently operates three branches.
