First-Time Homebuyer Grants
KALAMAZOO, Mich.-Consumers CU here is participating in a program making grants of up to $5,000 available for first-time homebuyers.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA)'s Homebuyer Assistance program is the result of the state allocating $15 million to the grant program, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Non-military homebuyers are eligible to receive grants of up to $3,000 (not to exceed 25% of the purchase price) on a single-family, one-unit owner-occupied principal residence, while active military members and veterans can receive up to $5,000. Funds can be used with any first lien mortgage transaction, can be combined with MSHDA's Down Payment Assistance program, and have no income, asset or purchase price limits.

UMass Five Expands Shared Branching
HADLEY, Mass.-UMassFive College FCU has expanded its shared branching to include a UMass Amherst branch. As part of the CU Service Centers Network, UMassFive members can use the Amherst branch to deposit and withdraw funds, make loan payments and get loan advances, and more. Prior to this year, these services were only available at the CU's Hadley and Northhampton branches.

New Video Is Created
FITCHBURG, Mass.-IC FCU has posted another video in its campaign to provide fun, informative financial literacy to members and non-members. The latest video, "Mortgages 101," covers renting versus buying a home, and uses song to teach the lesson.

High School Affinity Card Offered
CARSON CITY, Nev.-Greater Nevada CU here has created an affinity card for Carson High School, which has had a student-run branch inside the school since 1996.
The "Senators" debit card can be used for student checking accounts and was designed by students as part of a contest the organized by GNCU. More than 60 students entered the competition, and GNCU representatives selected the top three designs. All three finalists received Amazon.com gift cards from the credit union.
