NYC's Municipal CU Recognized by State Legislature

New York-based Municipal Credit Union has been recognized by the state legislature for its 100 years of service to the civil service community with a legislative resolution in the state Senate.

Democratic State Sen. Velmanette Montgomery introduced the resolution in the Senate before before the summer recess. The resolution was presented in-person to MCU on Saturday.

"It's an honor to be part of the credit union's Centennial Anniversary and help celebrate the generations of members in Brooklyn and throughout the New York City area who have counted on MCU to help them achieve their financial goals and aspirations," said MCU Board of Directors First Vice Chair James Durrah. "I have seen the benefits MCU provides members from all vantage points, and it's truly a blessing to celebrate the longevity of this institution."

After being presented with the resolution, various representatives from the credit union and elected officials sat down to discuss topics that affect CUs and their members. Issues discussed ranged from the ability of credit unions to accept municipal deposits, CUs joining the New York's banking development district program and financial education and literacy programs.

The $2 billion MCU, which opened its doors in 1916 under the name Credit Union of Employees Conference Committee, serves more than 400,000 members from a wide array of employment groups and communities in the New York metro area.
