WORCESTER, Mass. – A former officer manager at Wyman-Gordon FCU and her husband, charged with staging a $210,000 robbery from the credit union, have asked the state court to dismiss the charges because of alleged misbehavior by police who they say coerced them into confessing.
But prosecutors believe they have a strong case against Susan Carcieri, 57 and her husband, George Labadie, 49, because police found thousands of dollars of the credit union loot hidden in a hole outside the couple’s three-decker home where a neighbor saw them stuffing it hours after the purported robbery, and elsewhere inside the house.
The couple have asked the court to dismiss the case because of alleged police misconduct and because of delays in bringing the 2005 indictments in the 2002 incident.
Carcieri reported to police she was accosted by an unknown assailant as she was entering the credit union before 7 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2002 and was forced to shut off the alarm and open the vault, before being left tied to a chair. Police immediately focused on the husband and told Carcieri during interrogation they believed he was responsible.
Police discovered $4,000 in $10 bills stuffed in a hold in the siding of the house, and another $20,900 in $100 bills in three separate locations inside the apartment in a search conducted two days after the incident.
