Credit Union 24 Grows With 12 New CUs

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Credit Union 24 said it has added a dozen new credit unions to its ATM and POS network over the past month.

They are: Ishpeming CU, CUSA FCU, America's CU, Lyncroten FCU, Charlottesville Postal FCU, Healthcare's Cooperative CU, Cloverbelt CU, PCM Employees CU, Delta County CU, Eaton Family CU, KBR FCU and the fledgling REALTORS FCU, the nation's first Internet-only credit union.

CU 24 also reported 17 credit unions renewed their contracts during the second quarter.

The credit union-owned network connects to more than 100,000 ATMs and 800,000 POS terminals across the country.

2 CUs Share Branch in Downey, CA

DOWNEY, Calif.-City Of Downey Federal Credit Union has agreed to share its Downey branch with Southern California Postal Credit Union.

Recognizing the difficulties that all financial institutions have faced during the economic downturn, both credit unions decided to take a collaborative approach to increase efficiencies that will enable them to more successfully compete in the financial services marketplace.

The official grand opening of the shared branch is July 31, but SoCal Postal members have been using the shared branch since May 4.

Finger Lakes Goes Community

GENEVA, N.Y.-Finger Lakes FCU said NCUA has approved its application to convert to a community charter serving almost 200,000 residents in surrounding Ontario, Seneca and Yates counties.

The $76-million credit union currently serve more than 300 select groups.

CU Contributes $10K To Travel Bank

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky.-Fort Knox FCU has pledged $10,000 to the Central Kentucky Airline Service Travel Bank, which will guarantee some revenue for the first airline that decides to start local commuter flights.

Those who pledge funds to the travel bank will get it back after they buy tickets for flights. Money for the pledges will only be collected after an airline commits to the flights.

Robber On Losing End Of Gunfight

MISSOULA, Mon.-A 24-year-old man who was shot in the face during a gunfight with police after he robbed Missoula Federal Credit Union pleaded guilty to armed robbery.

Peter Thompson, who fired a shot into the ceiling during the hold-up, made off with more than $11,000 during the Jan. 12 heist.

A deputy pursued Thompson and forced Thompson's truck off the road. When the robber fired a shot the deputy returned fire and Thompson was shot in the face.

Clarification

In the July 6 edition, CU Journal referred to Philip Perkins as "interim CEO" of Wescorp, but his hiring is for an ongoing full-time position, not merely for the interim.
