ON DEADLINE: Carjacker Drives Away With Toddler

A mother was reunited with her two-year-old son last week, minutes after police captured a man who had stolen her car with the infant in it as she was stopping to cash a check at her credit union.

The woman, who was unidentified, wanted to cash a check at Big Thompson FCU and got out of the car to fetch the young boy, when the assailant forced her to give up her keys and fled with the car. The woman then chased the carjacker down the street yelling, "My baby, my baby," according to an eyewitness. The eyewitness grabbed the woman and gave chase in his own car at speeds up to 100 miles an hour, calling 911 when they cornered the carjacker in the victim's car.

Police eventually joined the chase and captured the fleeing vehicle with the infant still safe in his car seat. A local man, identified as 24-year-old Edward Orr, was arrested at the scene.
