One Credit Union names Brett Smith its new CEO

One Credit Union on Friday named Brett Smith its new president and CEO.

Smith will officially take over the helm on Feb. 27, succeeding Jerry Cross, who retired after 32 years of service.

Smith has been part of One Credit Union for three years, serving as its chief financial officer. In addition to managing the finances of the credit union, Smith oversaw the compliance and property management areas of the credit union.

“One CU has been through some tremendous changes since merging three separate credit unions into One in 2010,” Smith said in a statement. “However, we are no longer in that constant state of ‘change.’ We are now evolving, enhancing and building on our strengths and member satisfaction to take One Credit Union to the next level.”

“Brett did a terrific job aligning us internally, and financially, in the wake of the merger,” said Jeff Taft, chairman of One CU’s board of directors. “He is a natural choice to continue our evolution as One Credit Union.”

Smith has more than 19 years of experience in retail financial services, having worked at Ledyard National Bank and Lake Sunapee Savings Bank prior to joining One CU. He has accepted an invitation to serve on the board of directors at the Vermont Make a Wish Foundation.

Smith studied at Andover College in Maine, Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire, and New England College of Business in Massachusetts. He resides in Post Mills, Vt., with his wife, Kati.

One Credit Union has branches in Barre, Chester, Essex, Springfield and Vergennes, Vt., and Claremont, N.H.
