OnPoint Community CU’s Teacher Of The Year Wins Year’s Free Mortgage

PORTLAND, Ore. – A technology teacher at a local high school won a year’s mortgage payments Friday, as OnPoint Community CU, formerly Portland Teachers CU, named its Educator of the Year.

Don Domes was recognized during a surprise visit to his classroom at Hillsboro High School, which also won a $5,000 grant for resources and supplies, as part of the credit union’s contest. Domes, a technology education teacher, was recognized for his work promoting the fields of technology, engineering, architecture and design.

OnPoint said its annual Prize for Excellence in Education recognizes exceptional teachers throughout Oregon and southwest Washington for their ability to encourage creativity, inspire and positively impact their students. Nearly 150 teachers were nominated by their peers, students, parents and communities for this year’s OnPoint Prize. A Community Choice winner, three finalists and five semifinalists also were awarded prizes.

The $3 billion credit union awarded one elementary teacher $1,500 and her school the same amount as its community choice winner, chosen by the vote of the community. Three other top teachers won $1,500 prizes.
