PA CUs Accept Half-A-Loaf FOMs After Court Ruling

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA reported said last week it has granted broader community charters to two Pennsylvania credit unions rebuffed by a federal court last year - but less than half of what a federal court turned down last year.

AmeriChoice FCU, in Mechnicsburg, was approved to serve 510,000 residents in the surrounding counties of Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry.

And New Cumberland FCU, in New Cumberland, was approved to serve 590,000 residents in Cumberland, Lebanon and Dauphin counties.

The two were among three area credit unions, Members 1st FCU was the third, to win community charters encompassing 1.2 million people in five counties surrounding the state capitol of Harrisburg, only to have the federal court strike down the charters last year as too broad.

Members 1st has reverted to its old charter, which encompasses more than 1,000 select groups.
