Panel Has Advice On Online Mortgage Lending

Online mortgage lending is becoming increasingly popular, and according to the participants in a panel discussion at CUNA Mutual's Discovery conference here, there is no reason for credit unions not to join the technology wave.

The panel consisted of Mark Wilburn, senior vice president of 66 FCU (above left), Mike Lynch, vice president of lending for Westerly Community CU (center), and Mike Long, vice president of lending for General Mills FCU. Robert Tort, regional sales manager for CUNA Mutual Mortgage Corp., served as facilitator.

"If credit unions think technology is going to solve all their issues, then they are setting themselves up for failure," said Tort. "Building an online mortgage program includes people, the process and technology. But as technology has advanced, applying online for a mortgage has become easier."
