SAN FRANCISCO – Andrew Hunter, who helped build Patelco CU into one of the largest credit unions in the country, said Friday he plans to retire next year.
Hunter has been with Patelco since 1990, working as chief financial officer and executive vice president before being named CEO in 2003, succeeding former NCUA Chairman Ed Callahan in the post.
“The timing was right,” Hunter said in a statement. “This lead time will allow us to complete some of our current initiatives and ensure a smooth transition to a new leader. By 2009, an improving economy and this long transition period will give my successor an optimal start at continuing our great success.”
The board of the $4 billion credit union has begun a search to find a successor.
