PLANO, Texas – A Delaware patent company yesterday filed suit against Texans CU, claiming the Richardson, Texas, credit union is infringing with the technology it uses to provide electronic banking and mobile alerts.
In its suit, Sonic Industry, LLC, claims the $1.4-billion credit union infringed on a U.S. patent it holds for Remote Limit Setting Information System and asks the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to issue a permanent injunction barring Texans from using the technology and to assess treble damages.
The suit claims Texans has used the Sonic technology to configure its servers to accept selection and limit parameters from remote processing devices corresponding to a member’s desktop computer, laptop, smart phone, tablet, or any other portable device interacting with the Texans Banking Software.
Over the past 12 months Sonic has filed similar patent cases against HSBC, Capitol One, Comerica, Viewpoint Bank, Bank of America, US Bancorp, Charles Schwab and Scotttrade.
NCUA has been running Texans under conservatorship since April 2011. NCUA says it does not comment on pending litigation.
