HARRISBURG, Penn. Patrick Conway has been named the new president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.
Conway succeeds longtime president Jim McCormack, who retires at year-end.
Conway joins PCUA from the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association, where he served as president/CEO for the past 12 years. Prior to that, Conway served as president/CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County.
“While there were many strongly qualified candidates for the position, Pat’s leadership skills, association experience, and political involvement make him a great fit for moving PCUA forward,” said PCUA Board Chair Maria LaVelle.
Conway is the Association’s fifth president since its inception in 1934. “I feel honored and privileged to be given the opportunity to lead such a strong organization as PCUA,” said Conway.
Conway told Credit Union Journal that he believes there is a great deal of opportunity in this state to further leverage members’ “passion” for their credit unions, especially with all the consumer anti-bank sentiment in recent years. “I think we can make even stronger inroads with our state’s legislature, telling the credit union story, educating elected officials about the credit union advantage and the situations facing our industry.”
Conway hopes the league can convince rule makers to lighten the compliance burden on credit unions, especially smaller institutions.
Conway joins the Association on Oct. 28 and will work with current PCUA CEO Jim McCormack until he steps down at the end of the year.
