After 27 years of service at Catholic FCU, Saginaw, Mich., Pat Backus, branch manager of the Euclid office, will retire in December.

Finance Center FCU, Indianapolis, hired Daniel Kavanaugh as chief sales and marketing officer.

The NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council announced its new Credit Union Executive Council structure: Linda Childs (chair) from Knoxville Post Office CU will continue to represent District 2 for a three-year term, expiring September 2014. Representing District 3, Jason Boesch of Oklahoma RE&T Employees CU will also continue to serve as a director for another three-year term. The new Credit Union Advisory Council chairman, Catherine Tierney of Community First Credit Union in Wisconsin, also re-appointed at-large director Michael Kurish of Associated Schools ECU to serve a three-year term. The executive council also includes the following sitting directors: Jim Blaine of State Employees' CU, Parker Cann of BECU, Bob Fouch of Corporate Central CU, Dan Kester (secretary) of Sooper CU, Debbie Peters of Incol CU, Jack Sheets of Interra CU, Mendell Thompson of America's Christian CU and Terry West of Vystar CU.

Brett Wooden, business development manager with Unitus Community CU, Portland, Ore., received the Young Credit Union Professional of the Year Award at the Summit Awards sponsored by the Washington and Oregon CU Foundations.

NASCUS also announced its new board structure: The state regulators continuing their service on the NASCUS Board are John Kolhoff (Mich.), Orla Beth Peck (Utah), and Michael Wettrich (Ohio). Each Board member will serve a three-year term ending in September 2014. New NASCUS Chairman Peck also appointed Werner Paul, deputy commissioner of the Virginia Bureau of Financial Institutions, to a one-year term on the board. The remaining sitting NASCUS board members include: Tom Candon, deputy commissioner, Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration; Mary Hughes (chair), Financial Institutions Bureau chief, Idaho Department of Finance; Jerrie Jay, administrator, North Carolina Credit Union Division; Linda Jekel, director of credit unions, Washington Department of Financial Institutions; and Kathy Stewart (secretary/treasurer), director of Financial Institutions, Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions.

The Iowa CU League handed out the following awards at its annual convention: Larry Nuss received the 2011 Heritage Award for lifetime achievement within the credit union industry. Nuss has been active within the credit union movement for more than 50 years, serving as Cedar Falls Community CU CEO for more than 32 years and as chairman of the Iowa Credit Union League. Tom Kuehl received the 2011 Professional Cooperative Spirit Award in recognition of outstanding service, commitment, and leadership in the credit union movement. Kuehl has been in the credit union industry for more than 30 years, most recently serving as CEO for The Members Group. Financial Plus CU Board Member Steve Williams received the 2011 Volunteer Cooperative Spirit award for his outstanding volunteer accomplishments in the credit union industry.

Radian Guaranty Inc., Philadelphia, has expanded its sales force with eight new sales representatives: Christine Brown is responsible for customers in Maryland and Washington, D.C. Katherina DiMartino is responsible for customers in southern Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, and Ohio. Rona Draper is responsible for new business opportunities in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Deanna Kase is responsible for customers in the Tampa Bay, Fla., area and northern Florida. Baird Marble is responsible for customers in southern California. Rebecca McDermott is responsible for customers in southern Texas. Paul Pritchett is responsible customers in northern Texas, and David Shuart is responsible for new business opportunities in Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas.
