FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A man who held up Peoples’ FCU here Wednesday afternoon was shot dead by police after they chased him down and he threatened them with a handgun.
The suspect entered the credit union around 1 pm brandishing a rifle and demanded cash. He fled on foot and later carjacked a van, according to police.
Police say they received word that the suspect was heading toward northern Fort Wayne in a taxi cab. Officers then set up on major roadways leading into Fort Wayne, eventually spotting the cab.
Police caught up with the cab at a local gas station, and ordered the suspect out of the vehicle. The suspect exited the cab and walked behind a building. After refusing to stop, police said the man leveled a handgun at an officer. That's when an officer opened fire and killed the suspect.
