PHILADELPHIA Philadelphia FCU has agreed to pay $50,000 to help sponsor the first the first Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic this summer.
On June 2, cyclists from around the world will line up near the top of Lyceum Avenue, a steep street known to race fans as the Manayunk Wall. The 12-mile circuit will run roughly from Manayunk to Lemon Hill in Fairmount. The men’s race will consist of 10 laps and the women’s race will include five laps.
The Philly Cycling Classic is replacing the Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, which was canceled in January after a 28-year run due to a lack of sponsorship needed to cover costs. TD Bank was lead sponsor of the original race but chose not to continue its involvement.
