Police Believe Robber Faked Kidnapping Claim

BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Police now believe that a man who robbed TeleCommunity Credit Union here claiming he did so because his child was being held hostage by kidnappers made up the story.

In a note to a teller, the man said his child was being held outside the Louis A. Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and would be killed by the kidnappers if he did not return with the money. Afterward, however, the suspect was spotted by police driving in excess of 75 mph away from the scene.

'"We are confident at this point that there was no kidnapping and no hostage,'' said Township Police Chief Michael McNeely.
