Postal Worker Who Robbed Own CU Gets NoBreak From Judge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - (02/14/05) -- A postal worker who called in sickto rob Knoxville Post Office CU tried unsuccessfully last week toconvince a federal judge he deserved a sentencing break because ofhis good work record. But John Duckett, 45, failed to sway U.S.Judge Tom Varlan, who sentenced Duckett to 10 years in prison forthe October 2003 robbery at his credit union, as well as hold-upsat three local banks. Duckett's defense attorney failed to convincethe judge the robber was due some leniency, despite noting thatDuckett's "employment record is extraordinary."
