GREENSBORO, N.C. – Employees and members of Premier FCU raised $47,000 in two months to benefit a three-year-old uninsured member who lost his battle with leukemia last month.
The credit union’s community rallied around the family of Paxten Mitchell, raising funds in a variety of ways at its branches and through its select employee groups to help pay medical expenses for the tot, whose treatment was not covered by insurance.
Other community agencies also raised funds to help defray medical expenses, including the Asheville Firefighters Association, which raised more than $4,500 through the Paxten Mitchell Memorial Poker Run. Eblen Charities in Asheville has received more than $18,000 in donations to help the family pay the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical costs the Mitchell family owes after Paxten's fight with leukemia.
Unfortunately, the Asheville toddler lost his battle with the deadly disease on April 6.
