SWANZEY, N.H. – A man suspected in as many as 19 Boston-area credit union and bank heists was arrested in this rural New Hampshire town 90 minutes from Boston last Friday.
Anthony Gilbert, an Alabama native, was arrested in connection with a carjacking at a residence in Bellows Falls, Vt., a robbery at a convenience store in Walpole, N.H., and a heist at a Super 8 Motel in Brattleboro, Vt., all of which occurred within a span of several hours the day before.
Gilbert is believed to be the prolific robber known as the PJ Bandit, because he was seen wearing puffy jackets in several of the heists.
Among the credit unions he allegedly hit were: Bridgewater CU in Quincy, Mass., University CU in Boston (twice), First Trade CU in South Boston, Boston CU in Dorchester and the Cambridge Portuguese CU in Somerville, Mass.
