Provident Central Asks For FOM Of 11 Million

The march to open fields of membership, or FOM, continues in the Golden State. Provident Central CU has applied to state regulators with the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) for what is believed to be the biggest FOM grant ever in the Golden State, or anywhere in the U.S. Documents obtained by The Credit Union Journal under the state's Public Information Act show the $900-million Redwood, Calif.-based credit union has requested permission to serve the 10-million residents of Los Angeles County and the one-million residents of Contra Costa County. The 11-million residents would make it the biggest FOM grant ever approved by state regulators.

At least three other state-chartered credit unions have won FOMs amounting to around 10 million. Texas is the only other state that has granted FOMs exceeding two-million.
