ICUL Launches ‘Dialogue With Dan’
NAPERVILLE, Ill.–Dan Plauda, CEO of the Illinois CU League, has become the first to host his own blog. Called “Dialogue with Dan” and found at http://iculeague.blogspot.com/ it includes regular postings from Plauda about the Illinois system and credit union issues. Credit unions are welcome to comment, ask questions and share their thoughts with Plauda via their own postings, and at the same time, share information with their fellow credit unions, according to the league. Visitors to the blog can also choose to share postings with others via email inks. The league website has also added a “new/what’s hot” update, headlines from recent news stories of interest from various publications, and links to related credit union entities.
Alabama Telco Moves To NCUSIF
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Alabama Telco Credit Union has moved to the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) for deposit insurance. The $345-million ATCU had been using American Share Insurance (ASI), Dublin, Ohio, for coverage. Alabama Telco will continue to offer coverage from Excess Share Insurance (ESI), an affiliate of ASI.
Supplee Wins Award Form PCUA
HARRISBURG, Penn.–Judith Supplee, CEO of Keystone FCU in Downingtown, Penn., has been named winner of the William W. Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award for the Credit Union Professional of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association. The award will be presented during the PCUA’s annual meeting May 3 in Pittsburgh.
Polando Named Interim President
BOULDER, Colo.–Elevations Credit Union has named COO Evelyn Polando as interim president while a search is underway to replace Bill Sterner, who died after suffering a heart attack. Polando joined Elevations as VP-operations in 1999, and was named chief operating officer in 2001. Before that, she was VP-installation at Summit Information Systems.
Meanwhile, in Fort Wayne, Ind., Greg Mohr has been named president of MidWest America FCU. Mohr joined the $383-million MWAFCU in October of 2004 as VP-commercial, agricultural & mortgage lending.
Spectrum Merges Into Arrow CU
OAKLAND, Calif.–The $2.7-million Arrow CU is being absorbed via merger by the $136-million Spectrum FCU in San Francisco. Arrow was founded to serve employees of Mother’s Cookies, which closed in 2006 when Arrow had assets of $5 million.
Private Deposit Insurance Returns
PORT NECHES, Texas–Private deposit insurance for credit unions officially returned to the Lone Star State with the conversion of MCT CU from federal insurance provided by NCUA, the federal regulator reported.
Members of the $142-million credit union will have their deposits insured by ASI Inc., of Dublin, Ohio.
The private insurance option returned to Texas last year after more than a decade lapse. The state’s private deposit insurer was liquidated and all CUs converted to federal insurance after the 1991 collapse of Rhode Island Share and Deposit Indemnity Corp., which caused a nationwide panic over private insurance.
OCUF Grants $30K To Biz Kid$
DUBLIN, Ohio–The Ohio Credit Union Foundation has granted an additional $30,000 to the Biz Kid$ TV program, bringing the total dollars granted to $60,000. Biz Kid$ is a half-hour children’s television series about financial literacy and entrepreneurship sponsored by America’s Credit Unions.
Of all credit union leagues and foundations across the U.S, only the Washington CU Foundation and the RMJ Foundation have contributed more dollars to Biz Kid$.
All nine of Ohio’s PBS stations are airing the Biz Kid$ show, which began airing nationally in January and will run for 26 weeks on 300 Public Broadcasting Service stations nationwide.
