Radebaugh announces retirement from Carolinas CU League

Carolinas Credit Union League President/CEO John Radebaugh announced he will retire July 1, 2018, and the league plans to work with Credit Union Resources on the search for his successor.

“We’re going to be sad to see John go,” Patty Idol, chair of the CCUL Board of Directors and president/CEO of Mountain Credit Union, said in a statement. “He’s been a strong leader and a great advocate for credit unions in the Carolinas for over a decade.”

Radebaugh was hired as president/CEO of the North Carolina Credit Union League (NCCUL) in 2003. Ten years later he spearheaded the merger of the North and South Carolina leagues. Prior to his tenure in the Carolinas, he was president of the New Mexico CU League.

His introduction to credit unions, however, came during his 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, when he served on the supervisory committee and later the board of Freedom 1st FCU at McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, which eventually led him to a job at the Kansas Credit Union Association.

“My First Sergeant experience in the Air Force drew me to credit unions,” said Radebaugh in a statement. “I saw how our credit unions helped young airmen with their financial situations and I saw how the banks on base could care less about them. I truly enjoy getting to support the great work our credit unions are doing. We have much to accomplish at the League for credit unions over the next 12 months, and we have a great team that is focused on delivering value to credit unions in the Carolinas for years to come.”
