Rep Takes 1,000 CU Names On Cards To Afghanistan

U.S. Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) carried more than 1,000 handwritten holiday greetings from credit unions during his latest visit to U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Indiana league officials, who personally hand-signed and wrote messages on 232 Riley Hospital Holiday Cards, said they were honored to participate. Sale of the cards also benefited Credit Unions for Kids.

"We became aware in mid-November of this opportunity to show our support for the troops and to assist Congressman Pence on this initiative," said John McKenzie, Indiana league president. "Helping the Congressman make their holiday a little bit brighter while they are so far from home is something we are honored to do."

Credit union leaders delivered three bags of cards to Pence's district office where they were combined with some 10,000 others collected during his "Operation Holiday Greeting" campaign that asked all Hoosiers to send cards for him to pass out to troops.

Pence will lead a congressional delegation to Afghanistan where he will meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai to review military operations and evaluate the progress on the war there.
