BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Police arrested a man they say tried to rob separate branches of Bethpage FCU within minutes last Wednesday morning – after having hit three other branches of the credit union in recent weeks.
John Brooks, 58, was charged with trying to rob the Bethpage Mineola branch around 9:35 a.m. last Wednesday, then the branch in nearby Hempstead just 15 minutes later, unsuccessfully both times.
Brooks is believed to be the robber who hit the credit union’s Freeport branch on Nov. 16, its Lynbrook branch on Dec. 16 and the same Mineola branch on Feb. 3.
He also was charged with robbing the Roslyn Savings Bank in New Hyde Park on Oct. 7.
