TOPEKA, Kan. -- A Kansas City, Mo., man was convicted in a jury trial Friday of four armed robberies, including three at local credit unions.
Charles Shaw, 55, was found guilty of robbing Main Street CU in Leavenworth on Nov. 24, 2010; Education CU in Topeka on Dec. 30, 2011; and attempting to rob Education CU on Feb. 9, 2012. Shaw rode a bicycle to the credit union that day and was wearing a blue stocking cap, sunglasses and a blue bandana around his neck while carrying a blue fanny pack.
When the guard approached Shaw and tried to question him, Shaw left the credit union and began running. He was taken into custody after he slipped and fell, breaking his left ankle.
Police found a .45-caliber pistol in Shaw’s fanny pack.
Shaw as also convicted of the Feb. 14, 2011 armed robbery at Citizens National Bank in Leavenworth.
He was acquitted of a charge of robbing the Kaw Valley State Bank in Topeka on Oct. 10, 2010.
Shaw’s sentencing is set for Feb. 19.
