Robber Hit Same Campus USA FCU Branch Three Times

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A man who threw cash out the window from his getaway car after robbing a Campus USA FCU branch Tuesday had hit the same branch in March and May.

The alleged robber, Charles Mallory, told police he thought of committing suicide during his getaway when it became clear he was headed back to prison. At one point, he put a 9 mm firearm in his mouth and thought about pulling the trigger, but decided not to, the 48-year-old convicted felon, who previously served time in federal prison for bank robbery, said during a court appearance yesterday.

Mallory said he also thought about reaching for the gun when he was pulled over so law enforcement officials would shoot him, but then thought better of the idea.

Police chased down Mallory after he allegedly held up the credit union at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday, then sped away down Interstate 75, throwing cash out the window as he did.
