GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Two men who attempted to rob Berrien Teacher’s CU a year ago, which ended up in the shooting death of a third accomplice, were sentenced to long prison terms Friday.
The two, Glenn Porter, 22, and Travis Curry, 21, and a third, Devarance Kimbrough, drove to the credit union in a stolen car last Jan. 18 and Curry waited in the car while Porter and Kimbrough entered the credit union brandishing handguns and exchanged gunfire with an armed security guard.
Kimbrough was hit and died later from the gunshot wounds after the other two dropped him off at a nearby hospital.
As part of a plea agreement, Porter confessed to three more heists, including the Jan. 9, 2006 robbery at Elcose FCU, in Elkhart, Ind.
Porter was sentenced to more than 12 years and Curry to eight in federal prison.
