YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – One of three men suspected in Wednesday’s hold-up at Cavalier FCU shot himself to death after spending several hours holed up in a house on the city’s north side, surrounded by federal and city lawmen.
Police spent several hours negotiating for the surrender of Donnel Weekley, 25, before he shot himself in the head. Investigators found his body in the house at about 10:30 p.m..
Two people were taken into federal custody and two people were allowed to walk free before Weekley shot himself, police said.
U.S. Marshals had a warrant for Weekley, unrelated to the credit union robbery, and had been searching for hm for two days.
Authorities said Weekley and two others men wearing dark clothing, masks and gloves walked into the credit union around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. One of the men fired one shot into the ceiling tiles while another leaped over a counter to grab money.
As the men ran out of the building, one dropped some of the cash on the ground.
Two suspects in connection with the robbery were cornered and arrested after a stand-off in Youngstown.
