San Antonio City Employees FCU Celebrates Name-Change in low-key way

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Members at San Antonio City Employees FCU will be greeted by a big change when they stop by their credit union Monday morning–a new name: generations federal credit union–all in lowercase letters.

The lowercase name is aimed at recreating the founding of the credit union in 1940 by a bunch of city employees who were intimidated by the big banks of the day.

The name was changed because the $315 million credit union recently expanded to a community charter serving surrounding Bexar County.

The new name is being affixed over the weekend to the credit union’s six branches and 26 ATMs, and will be added to the new mini-branches that will be opened in the city’s Goodwill Industries stores. The first one will open Monday to coincide with the name change.

Those branches will offer services aimed at the underserved clientele of Goodwill, like payday loans and second-chance checking.
