SECU Expands Annual Meeting Puts Focus On 300 Volunteer Members

State Employees' Credit Union expanded its annual meeting this year to include a luncheon and educational session for SECU Advisory Board and Loan Review Committee members. The event was attended by approximately 300 SECU volunteers.

According to SECU, the educational session was added as one of the initial steps toward broadening the scope of the volunteer function, with the long-range goal of strengthening SECU's grassroots network across North Carolina. The credit union currently has approximately 1,500 volunteers statewide, primarily through member advisory councils at each of its branches.

"This expanded meeting format provides a great opportunity to encourage open communication between all SECU volunteers," said SECU Chairman Dr. James G. Merrill.

In addition, the meeting featured guest speaker Ferrel Guillory, Director for the Program on Southern Politics, Media & Public Life at UNC-Chapel Hill. The session also included an update on SECU's 2006 strategic plan from Robert S. Hall, SECU's senior executive vice-president, as well as a dialogue session between advisory board members and the SECU board.
