CHICAGO-North Side Community FCU here is using International CU Day to launch "Better Directions: Financial Security Has No Age Limit," a national campaign being run in partnership with the National Council on Aging and the National Federation of Community Development CUs.
North Side is one of eight CDCUs nationwide to receive a grant to enhance their older and disadvantaged members' economic security. The $11-million, 3,300-member CU will use the grant to expand its marketing and outreach efforts, promote savings accounts with higher interest rates, offer low-interest loans and create financial literacy programs with an emphasis on expense reduction, savings and budgeting, all with adults age 60 and older in mind.
"Better Directions" is funded by Atlantic Philanthropies and its Aging Program. Atlantic is a New York-based group dedicated to helping vulnerable seniors become more financially secure.
