The new CDs are part of a western North Carolina Go Local campaign, through which Self-Help has helped fund such local businesses as Regent Park Early Childhood Development Center, West End Bakery, the French Broad Food Coop, Blue Ridge Biofuels, Hops and Vines, Studio Flora Diva, Enter the Earth, FLS Energy and the Glen Rock Commercial Building.

The nation’s leading community development credit union said it also has developed CDs that invested exclusively in green businesses or in women and children through day-care centers.

The local CDs require a minimum deposit of $500 and offer “competitive” rates for three months up to five years.
