Senate Funds Laundered Through CU

An assistant campaign treasurer for U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., was charged with embezzling $350,000 from the senator's re-election campaign and depositing a large portion of the funds in a Florida credit union.

Roger Blevins III, 32, who was secretary for the New Castle County Democratic Party until last week, nearly cleaned out the senator's reelection fund, authorities said. Blevins, charged with interstate transport of stolen property, allegedly made unauthorized transfers from Biden's campaign treasury in amounts between $3,000 and $80,000, with the largest transfer an $80,000 deposit in Fairwinds CU, Orlando.

Campaign officials said the funds were stolen from Biden's senate campaign coffers and will not affect his decision to seek the Democratic nomination for president, as the senator is considering doing for a second time.
