Senate Gets NCUA Nomination

WASHINGTON -- President Obama yesterday officialy nominated former NCUA Board member Deborah Matz to be chairman of the three-member panel, by sending her nominating papers over to the the Senate Banking Committee for its review.

Matz, who served on the NCUA Board from 2001 to 2005 and was nominated by President Bush last time, is expected to be confirmed easily.

Her confirmation would push Michael Fryzel, a Republican, who has served only since last August, out of the chair and give Democrats a majority of the three members.

It is not clear when the Senate will schedule a hearing on the nomination.
