Sentencing Postponed In $107,000 CU Heist

During the robbery, two men dressed as females, both armed with guns, demanded that money be taken from the vault, according to the plea agreement. The robbers got away with stealing $106,950 in cash from the credit union.

Alex Dozier, 23, known as Munchie, was scheduled to be sentenced yesterday but after a meeting with Dozier’s defense attorney and a federal prosecutor outside the courtroom, the judge announced that the sentencing was being postponed to another date in a week or so.

The robbers fled the scene in a gold Ford Explorer that they had parked in front of the credit union. The robbers abandoned this vehicle a short distance away at an apartment complex.

Authorities eventually recovered the guns that had been used in the robbery, a Charter Arms 38 Special and a Ruger 9mm pistol. They also recovered the burnt remains of women’s clothing.

Dozier admitted he used some of the proceeds of the robbery to buy a used Cadillac.

The other man who dressed in women’s clothing, Jon Anthony Cole, Jr., also pleaded guilty to the same charges as Dozier. Cole is now awaiting sentencing on May 29.

Before she stopped the hearing, the judge allowed Dozier’s mother to make a statement in support of her son so she would not have to come back when the hearing is continued. “He’s a good son ... he got in with the wrong crowd,” said the mother.

In September Dozier pleaded guilty to two counts – armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Two other men involved in the robbery, Robert Baker II and Deterris Thomas, have both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. Baker provided the Ford Explorer and Thomas provided a cell phone. Sentencing hearings for Baker and Thomas have not yet been set.
