COLUMBUS, Ohio – A 59-year-old man was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday for robbing the same branch of CME FCU twice in November and leading police on a high-speed chase after the second robbery.

Hermon Hawkins told the judge he was facing debts he blamed on an addiction to the painkiller OxyContin when he robbed the credit union the first time on Nov. 5. When the $10,000 from the robbery ran out, he returned and robbed the same branch of another $10,000 on Nov. 27.
Police spotted Hawkins' car shortly after the noontime robbery and pursued it for nearly an hour at speeds that topped 100 mph before the car crashed in rural Licking County.
