BOCA RATON, Fla. IBM Southeast Employees FCU here has created a Web and social media campaign built around CUNA’s “Don’t Tax My CU” initiative.
Along with its ad agency, MDG Advertising, IBM Southeast EFCU created a page on its website to explain the CU tax exemption and what it would mean if new taxes were imposed on credit unions. Additionally, the site has a CUNA video explaining the exemption, and allows users to share a message about the “Don’t Tax” campaign on Facebook, as well as look up the Twitter handles of their congressmen and senators and tweet directly to them.
IBM Southeast also has placed a banner on its home page promoting the campaign, and has used both of its social media profiles to spread the word. Since the “Don’t Tax” page launched in late June, it has been viewed more than 2,300 times.
“We think that the CUNA Don’t Tax My CU’ site is great, but we thought we could take it a step further and make it simple for members to share this message across social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter,” said Alex Yamall, director of marketing and brand management at the 72,000-member, $855-million credit union. He added that IBMSEFCU hopes more CUs will adopt the strategy of helping members tweet directly at their representatives to spread the word in support of the CU tax exemption.
“This model is not limited to our use,” he said. “We would like all credit unions to follow in order to get the word out.”
