South Carolina Consumers Fueled By Their Local CU

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- More than two dozen South Carolina credit unions are offering free gas fill-ups throughout the state this week as part of a public relations campaign to highlight good deeds in their local communities.

The gas giveaway will top off the second year of the credit unions’ MADTAG program, for Make A Difference-Tag, you're it.

“MADTAG is all about finding ways to Make A Difference in the lives of others and our community” said Linda Weatherford, vice president of marketing and business development for SPC CU. “But we don’t want it to stop there, just like a game of tag, we want people to pass on the good deed to someone else” said Weatherford.

“Instead of just asking people what good deeds have been done for them, we wanted to lead by example by surprising drivers with a deal on gas” said Anne Shivers, president of Carolina Collegiate FCU. “We hope the drivers who are the recipients of our good deeds this week will be energized to find a way to pass it on.”

The credit unions of South Carolina have a place for MADTAG stories on their Facebook page. They’ll post submitted examples of good deeds they’ve received and thank those responsible.

For more information on the MADTAG initiative, visit www.madtag.org. More details along with exact times and locations of the gas giveaways will be announced via twitter @MADTAGSC and on the MADTAG Facebook page at www.madtag.org.
