CHARLESTON, S.C. – A former employee at South Charleston Employees FCU was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly embezzling more than $100,000 from the credit union.
Heather Laake, 21, worked at the credit union between May 3 and Aug. 26, and allegedly wrote checks to her boyfriend totaling $101,296 from two credit union members’ accounts. Police say she wrote the checks about every three to five days.
Laake allegedly changed the address of where the account statements would be sent so victims would not be aware of money missing from their accounts, the complaint states.
